Bunnies

Three baby bunnies are living in our front yard. Little cottontails. Awhh. They are called Flopsie, Mopsie and Dr. Squires.
Today I haven't got class but I'm meeting with Betty-Anne, my thesis supervisor. I'm pretty excited to share my ideas with her as I know she'll have some really important input for me. Other than that I'm going to go blow another couple hundred on some textbooks that I won't read.
Grrreat.
In other news, boyfriend booked his flights to Canada :) We get to spend Christmas and New years together, I'm so excited. Actually we get almost a month, he's going to be sooo sick of me by the end of it :) Can't wait.

Another Brick in the Wall

Tomorrow is the official first day of my last (hopefully) year of school. I'm trippin. On top of taking a full course load, I'm also writing my thesis about women's bodily agency in contrast to state-run disciplinary institutions and how they act in relation to eachother. Meaning the medicalization of the female body embodied through the birthing process and how it can be rebelled against (or not) through the use of midwives and homebirths. Idk where it's going really but, we'll see. It doesn't have to be my best work but I need to pass for sure otherwise my big move won't happen :(
That being said, while I'm crazy nervous I a very very excited to begin my classes this year. It's officially my last time being an undergrad student. And I'll no longer get discounts at Pizza Hut after this year. Haha.

Balls Deep: A Manifesto

Running in the rain in thongs and a maxi skirt is the worst. Your thongs flick up dirt and mud and crap and your white maxi skirt drags around in puddles. It's awful.
And I hafta get my tonsils taken out :( Eww.

White maxi skirt (Value Village), black knotted tank top (Winners), leopard print scarf (Urban Outfitters), chambray button down (Value Village).

Handjobs for the holidays

Summer is definitely fading away. A change of seasons was due though, for the changes we have all experienced this past few months. The hot summer sun is a little bit less scorching, and the cool breezes come more often, smelling like crisp grass and campfires. The mosquitos aren't nearly as bad.

Khaki pleated tulip skirt (Calvin Klein $16), white ruched sheer tank (Dynamite $10), silver chain (Gramma's, vintage silver) with anchor pendant (from Hilary). Not sure about the vintage Armani blazer .. I think they beige may not be different enough from the colour of the skirt.
Pink oxford flats ($30 Joneve).

Black ruffled mini (Dynamite $15), grey pearl sweater (KP's closet). Red patent leather mary-jane stilettos (Joneve).

Black ruffled mini (Dynamite), grey cotton blouse (KP's from Old Navy), black peep-toe pumps.

Heaven

Heaven needed a comedian up there so they took another angel. Mark was one of my high school besties and the first boyfriend I ever had who bought me flowers :) He was always a sweetheart, the biggest smile at the party, and could make anybody laugh at any time.
It's under heartbreaking circumstances that we are all together, but our old high school group has completely stuck together and it's like there was never any time or distance between us.

Love Lockdown

Confused about life. I know what I want but you can't have it all and I don't know how to pick and choose but if I refuse to decide I'll end up with nothing.

Fried Limes

I made it a mission of mine to become legit in the kitchen. Which is dreaming pretty damn big seeing as a couple months ago I couldn't defrost a bagel without catching something on fire.
But I've decided this is the yummiest thing I've made lately!
Tilapia pan-seared in coconut oil with fried limes and jalapeno stuffed olives, garnished with fresh coriander and pepper.
Other successful recipes of mine have been:
- Butternut squash and broccoli all chopped up and sauteed with pine nuts with a bit of goat cheese sprinkled on top.
- Homemade baba ganoush: BBQ'd eggplant, blended with 5 cloves of garlic (yeah it burns!), cumin, paprika, onion, sesame seeds, parsley and olive oil. Served hot with fresh celery! Noms.
- Spaghetti zucchini: Literally zucchini chopped up in the shape of spaghetti noodles, dried out for a few hours then sauteed, served with fresh tomato sauce, black olives and extra smelly old parmesan.
- Cucumber, tomato and celery salad with chopped strawberries, walnut and goat cheese and a basic balsamic vinegar and olive oil dressing.
- An egg over easy with sliced avocado and vegemite on a piece of toast (yep I can successfully toast bread now!)

Enter the Ninja

Outfits:
Orange Aztec floral print pleated skirt ($10 Costa Blanca), navy blue 3/4 length sleeve sweater (Gap).
White maxi dress (Dotti - free from Kat), studded belt (Dynamite $20).
Grey costa Blanca tank, brown pinstriped bermuda shorts, studded cuff bracelet, mauve chiffon braided chain necklace (Lovisa).
Flowers from Boyfriend. Awhh.
Watching a doco "Big Fat Gypsy Wedding" such a crazy, hypersexual, misogynistic culture. Quite interesting though, they seem super traditional and chaste, but the girls dress/dance and appear sooooo trashy, and the men are quite violent towards the women. There's also virtually no education in the communities, especially not for girls.
In other news SHARK WEEK is so soon.

Red Sky at Night

Nom nom nom, one week into Paleo diet and it's going well, it's weird because I'm eating more calories and waaaay more fat, but very few carbs and mostly they are from fruit. But my skin, hair and nails have improved and I'm feeling really energetic. But I've also been hanging out in the sun every other morning so I'm trying to be sun smart but tots have gotten my white girl tan on :)
Hmm, in other news, was at Bluesfest watching Lupe Fiasco, and afterwards watched Cheap Trick almost get smushed by the collapsing stage. It was cool but gave me Aussie cyclone flashbacks.
Boyfriend is sickie, poor thing, wish I could be with him right now, it's so stressful knowing there's nothing I can do to make him feel better. Long-distance is lonely, long-distance with a sailor is lonely and stressful, I'm always worrying.
Anyways, this outfit is my green silky button down ($90ish, Sportsgirl), cut off boyfriend jean shorts ($12 Joe Fresh), ombre fringe earrings, and mauve shooties (Aldo).

Kick Push

Started the Primal Diet today! Well it's more of a lifestyle thing, you try and live like a caveman :) It's actually awesome and pretty legit. You exercise less but stay consistently more active throughout the day, so lot's of walking. And then when you do work out you're supposed to go easy and then sprint hard and lift hard as you can for a short period of time. Like a caveman chasing prey/lifting rocks .. I've also eschewed all lighters and am only using sticks. Haha, just kidding.
But then the eating is pretty much no carbs, and high protein and fat. It's pretty interesting, we'll see how this goes, especially since I'm a carb freak. Seems pretty badass.
So here goes day 1, been easy peasy so far but not a whole lot has changed. Except I went for a barefoot walk outside, since there's nothing more primal than that :)

Oh yea, cottage yea!

Carleton is still driving me nuts. I left on a bad note and came back to an empty inbox, meaning the 10 people I emailed have failed to email me back. Thanks a lot.
This weekend was so amazing. S and I drove up after work on Friday, drove through a massive storm and stopped a couple times for fags and coffee and food and a dead dog that was actually a plastic bag. Arrived at the cottage with M and B and the four of us stayed up all ight eating junk food, drinking and gossiping. Then we woke up at the ass crack of dawn, began drinking, spent the day sunbathing and swimming in the lake, and then SF and H came up! That's when the true partying began, and we all got serious with the drinking, made lunch and dinner, and invited the neighbour boys on a high school reunion over for a bonfire and to get their asses whooped at flip cup. It was a lovely night, the boys brought a ton of beer and fireworks and were quite entertaining. Then we all jumped off the dock at about 1am, and swam around in the dark trying not to die or jump ontop of each other. After that H and I were pretty tired and I had a stomach ache so we went inside to chill out, and my stomach pains got so bad I spent the rest of the night being sick. Right onto Hil's lap. Poor girl. Ah the tribulations of true friendship. The girls tag teamed me and hung out on the bathroom floor with me all night, then B gave me a Zantac which was a lifesaver and I passed out. The next morning we were all pretty hungover, so H and I woke up and cleaned up the huge mess outside, then she left to catch a flight to BC (safe travels babydoll!) The rest of the day was spent lying out in the sun, and then we all brought lawn chairs down to the dock and had snacks and lay there all day, swimming occasionally and yelling german greetings to fellow boaters.
After a massive cleanup we drove back home around dinner time, and for me it's been laundry, laundry, laundry ever since.
Lovely weekend with my besties since high school. I can't even express the amount of love I have for you biddie-hoes <3

Go ask Alice

One pill makes you larger
And one pill makes you small,
And the ones that mother gives you
Don't do anything at all.
Go ask Alice
When she's ten feet tall.
And if you go chasing rabbits
And you know you're going to fall,
Tell 'em a hookah smoking caterpillar
Has given you the call.
Call Alice
When she was just small.
When the men on the chessboard
Get up and tell you where to go
And you've just had some kind of mushroom
And your mind is moving low.
Go ask Alice
I think she'll know.
When logic and proportion
Have fallen sloppy dead,
And the White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen's "off with her head!"
Remember what the dormouse said:
"Feed your head. Feed your head. Feed your head"
